Missed Connections

Research and zine design

My research into communication and relationship formation in digital spaces lead me to the realm of Craigslist's Missed Connections; a space where ironically many turn to the digital in hope of connecting with someone they had the opportunity to communicate with offline.

To understand the motivations of these posters, I gathered one thousand missed connection posts from New York - the city with the highest post rate - and got to work: finding trends, analysing the language, the people who looked and who they looked for, their ages, and other points of comparison. My findings are documented as infographics in my book ‘Missed Connections - a field guide’. The book's purpose is to not only inform the reader about the realm of Craigslist Missed Connections but to encourage them to consider, and possibly record observations on their own connections.
